Viruses have impacted everyone’s lives in one way or another. These are microscopic creatures that seem to be everywhere causing havoc.
The human body is not without defences though. We have an immune system that can be trained to fight against infection over a long period of time. My talk covers our knowledge of viruses and a brief history of virus-human interactions in the past. I then talk about the winning strategies for the fight against them and how we can check for correct information when there is too much information out there.
I also touch upon the role of Merck in this field and how I ended up working for the Virology department.

About Vrushali Patil
I am a Scientist at Merck Life Sciences Glasgow in the Virology department. My day-to-day job involves setting up studies that investigate the safety of materials that are used for human therapy, such as medicines and vaccines.
I have multiple degrees in Biology but wasn’t always a Virologist. In fact, I have previously worked on kidney cells, pigs and even the crop barley! I am fascinated by the concept of life and how all living creatures are made from the same materials.
