Data As Art.

“DATA AS ART is a science/art project at NERC’s British Antarctic Survey (BAS). It visualises scientific data, to create stunning and thought-provoking artworks, using Antarctic data-sets that explain important and exciting science stories. “ – British Antarctic Survey.

In this exhibit, we showcase two of BAS’s DATA AS ART projects: Polar Aesthetics and Virtual Antarctica.

Polar Aesthetics: Art of the Arctic and Antarctic.

“What hidden histories written in polar ice can contemporary art reveal?

Royal College of Art PhD candidate Wayne Binitie in collaboration with British Antarctic Survey explores this question through three installations: Solid Series, Liquid Series & Vapour Series” British Antarctic Survey.

Virtual Antarctica.

In Phase 1 of this project (2017-2018), British Antarctic Survey’s Creative Services Manager, Pete Bucktrout captures 3D images of the BAS offices and laboratories at Cambridge and at the Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic facilities. For more information or to view the VR demo images head to https://www.bas.ac.uk/project/virtual-antarctica/

‘In Phase 2 of Virtual Antarctica, experience a new Arup commissioned installation about Climate
Change. A piece by UK born artist, Wayne Binitie in collaboration with British Antarctic Survey.”
