BIOMASS is the first satellite that will study the world’s forests in 3-dimensions using a P-band tomographic radar. It will reduce the current huge uncertainties in the amount of carbon stored in forests and how this changes with time, providing vital information to support decision making around climate change. This is a plain language short film commissioned and produced by Space4Climate, which represents the UK Earth observation community, in 2021.
Observations from this new mission will also lead to better insight into rates of habitat loss and hence, the impact this may be having on biodiversity in the forest environment.
