Join us for this live session to hear from Martin Young, a second-year doctoral student at the Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Photonics, and find out about the exciting work the Fraunhofer Centre are doing in the world of photonics, right here in Scotland!

About Martin Young
Martin is a second-year Doctoral student in Photonics with the Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Photonics.
He works with a company called Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics on a project focusing on using tiny LEDs to make tiny scientific instruments.
He studied Astronomy and Physics at the University of Glasgow, before working in the photonics industry for a few years building lasers and installing spectrometers. He also spent some time working at the Glasgow Science Centre as a Planetarium Presenter!
He learned all about light through his studies and work, from how we communicate across the oceans, to how we use colour to figure out what things are made of, to how we use it to understand how big and old our Universe is.
He is always looking to learn new things about how the world around him works, and studying photonics is teaching him about how he can do that in a thousand different ways.
