Join Zainab, a PhD student, to find out about the world of microbiology and the role it plays in wound health. Ask your questions about germs, learn what a biofilm is, and discover how they can be involved in our injuries. We’ll also find out about Zainab’s path into microbiology research, and what opportunities there are for you as a future researcher.

About Zainab Bilal
Hi! My name is Zainab, and I’m a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, and I was born and raised in the south side of Glasgow. My love for science began at school, thanks to an inspiring biology teacher who showed me how exciting the subject could be. I went on to study microbiology, fascinated by how tiny microorganisms can have such a huge impact on our lives. During my degree, I discovered that I loved research and working in the lab, which led me to pursue a PhD. My research focuses on communities of microorganisms called biofilms, how they cause infections in wounds, and exploring new ways to treat them. I love being a scientist and feel very grateful for the excellent teachers and supervisors who have supported me along the way.
